For every male sterilisation, there are 40 female surgeries in the country
4 Feb, 2015As per data obtained from the health ministry using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the number of female sterilisations in the country has increased from 30.22 lakh in 2012-2013 to 41.28 lakh in 2013-2014. In comparison, the number of Male sterilisations dropped from 1.20 lakh in 2012-2013 to 91,652 in 2013-2014. The figures show a massive difference preference in the birth control method used by the Indian population. For every male sterilisation, there are at least 40 females undergoing the process despite the male sterilization being an easy and quick process. Maharashtra had the highest number of female sterilizations (5.32 lakh) with barely 17,235 male sterilizations in 2013-2014.
