Did the UP Minister use a fleet of 26 cars?
8 Mar, 2012As per the reply obtained through a RTI application, the Minister for Power in UP, Mr. Ramveer Upadhahy had a fleet of 26 cars at his disposal between November 2008 and December 2010. As per norms, the Minister was entitled to one car provided by the estate department for which 125 litres of fuel is sanctioned per month for local travel. It has been alleged that the Minister got 25 more cars for himself from the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL). Two cars were allegedly dedicated for his security personnel while the remaining were being used by his family members, personal staff, and followers. These cars were reportedly allotted by UPPCL from its different pools - 18 from its headquarters at Shakti Bhawan, Lucknow while 7 were from the Hathras division. The amount spent by the UPPCL works out to Rs 8.55 lakh per month and over Rs. 1 Crore was spent by the government to maintain this fleet.
