Delhi HC stays CIC order on disclosure of names of donors to Prime Minister’s relief fund
8 Jul, 2012On a petition by the Central government, Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court has stayed a Central Information Commission (CIC) order, which asked the Prime Minister's Office to disclose the names of donors to the PM's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). On an application filed by a RTI applicant, Aseem Takyar, the CIC had ordered the PM Office on June 6, 2012 to give the information to the applicant. The HC has sought the reply of the applicant within four weeks, while staying it till December 10.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) A S Chandhiok argued that the Prime Minister National Relief Fund did not receive any donation from the government. The details about the donors and recipients had been maintained as personal and private information and not even disclosed to Parliament. It was claimed that PMNRF is not controlled or financed directly or indirectly by funds provided by the government.
