Criminal cases pending against over 27 % of the corporators of Hyderabad
3 Oct, 2014Reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that 41 out of the 150 corporators falling under the jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) belonging to various political parties have criminal cases pending against them in Hyderabad.
M Padmanabha Reddy, secretary of the Forum for Good Governance (FGG) informed a press conference addressed a press conference along with the treasurer D Karunakar Reddy and executive committee member Major K Prabhakar Reddy. He said that 113 cases had been booked against the 41 corporators. The polls to GHMC are proposed to be held before the end of this year and the current party wise position is given below:-
· MIM -16
· Congress- 13
· TDP - 7
· BJP - 3
· Independent - 1
The Mayor Majid Hussain faces seven cases including that of attempt to murder and rioting registered at Humayun Nagar police station. The FGG has appealed to the political parties not to give party tickets to the tainted corporators and also urged the voters to use their voting rights effectively and not to vote for those candidates who have a criminal record.
