Certificate course in RTI Act to start from January 2015
7 Jun, 2014With the objective of empowering the people to make an effective use of the RTI Act, the department of civics and politics at Mumbai University is planning to start a six month certificate course on RTI Act. The course is targeted at all sections of the society but would be specifically beneficial for the social activists, journalists, bureaucrats and members of civil society,
Dr Surrendra Jondhale, Head of Department of civics and politics, Mumbai University informed that the idea of a course was conceived recently and the department is working on its details. An expert committee is likely to be set up to work out the details of the course like the syllabus. If everything goes as planned, the course may see the light of the day early, perhaps January 2015.
The two day "Western India Convention on Right to Information" is being organised by the department on June 7 and 8 by the department in collaboration with NGOs.
Some of the topics being taken up in the convention for discussions are:-
Role of information commissions in strengthening the RTI Act
Pro-active disclosure – implementation of section 4 of RTI Act
Effect of judicial pronouncement on RTI
Role of training in strengthening of RTI
Use of technology for facilitating the RTI movement
RTI advocacy-Role of media
Supporting RTI with other legislation - whistle blower act, Right to Hearing etc
Criminalisation of Governance and RTI
Role of training in strengthening of RTI
