Barkatullah University to accept fee in the form of cash from RTI applicants
30 Mar, 2012The RTI Act and the Fee rules have prescribed certain modes through which fee can be paid by an applicant to a public authority. The Barkatullah University of Bhopal was not accepting cash as a mode of payment of fee from RTI applicants and was insisting on demand draft (DD). This made it expensive for an applicant as bank charged a minimum of Rs. 25/- as commission even for a DD for Rs. 2/-, apart from the time and hassles required getting a DD made. Further, it is the prerogative of the applicant to choose the mode of payment and the public authority cannot dictate the mode in which to accept fee from RTI applicants
However, after the news was broken in media, now the Barkatullah University has decided to accept fee in the form of cash from RTI applicants and has opened a cash counter for it.
