Are the documents related to emergency already in public domain?
27 Mar, 2012The statement of the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanasamy in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that “even after a thorough search, the documents pertaining to imposition of Emergency could not be traced in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) records” has been refuted n some news reports.
It has been claimed that in September, 2010 M G Devasahayam, an IAS officer who served as Chandigarh district magistrate during Emergency, got the documents through an RTI application from the National Archives of India (NAI). It has been reported that except for the document signed by Ms Indira Gandhi and sent to the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the rest of the documents are available in NAI.
