Is APMC being extravagant in organising functions?
1 Dec, 2013
The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that Navi Mumbai-based Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) has spent huge amount on refreshments and organising functions and events over the last four years. The reply states that the committee's expenditure on tea, snacks, meals and organising events or functions during the period from January 2009 to December 2012 was a whopping Rs 74.80 lakh.
The applicant has demanded from the state government that an independent agency should be appointed to look into the matter and unnecessary expenditure should be recovered from the erring market committee members.
Some members of the trading community too are not satisfied with such heavy expenditure on secondary things and have demanded that the committee should focus more on spending funds to improve market infrastructure like drainage, drinking water, security arrangements and other basic facilities.
