Another RTI activist shot at
9 Jul, 2012A RTI activist, Ramesh Agrawal, was seriously injured when two unidentified gunmen shot him twice in the Raigarh of Chattisgarh state, nearly some 225 km from the capital Raipur. Ramesh Agrawal, 56, has used Right to Information (RTI) Act the for protecting the local communities from industrial pollution and displacement due to industrial projects, was shot at in his office in a congested locality in heart of the town, some 225 km from Raipur. Two masked men arrived on motocycle at his office and fired at him. He received two bullet injuries and was rushed to the district government hospital where the doctors removed both the bullets from his thigh. He is said to be out of danger but still kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Police is looking into the matter.
Last year, he was arrested by police on a complaint by Jindal Group and the Amnesty International had asked the Indian government as well as the Chhattisgarh government to release him.
