70 year old RTI activist shot dead in Bankhanda village of Hapur
19 Apr, 2014Three unidentified car borne assailants shot dead Mangat Tyagi, a 70 year old RTI activist, outside his house at Bankhanda village, Hapur. Mangat Tyagi had filed nearly 14,000 RTI applications and had played an important in unearthing various cases of corruption in various government departments.
In view of perceived threats to the family of the slain, the district administration has taken steps to provide round-the-clock security to them. Two police personnel have been deployed outside their house and STF probe has been ordered into Tyagi's murder which shall begin soon. The district administration has assured that all accused will be arrested soon. It has been reported that the police has got some important clues in the case. The police is also looking into the possibility of the role of officials whose corrupt activities were exposed by Tyagi.
