6.5% of patients admitted to Safdarjung hospital expire
5 Jun, 2012Reply to an application filed under the RTI Act has revealed that in the multi-speciality Safdarjung hospital of New Delhi, a total of 24,924 patients have died while undergoing treatment at the hospital during the last three years. Of these 24,924 deaths, 10,542 died within 48 hours of admission in the hospital out of which 2,545 were children. There have been over 1,900 neo-natal deaths which includes 914 who died within 48 hours of admission.
Apart from the department of paediatrics which reported 5,382 deaths, the department of medicine witnessed 9,108 deaths, the department of burns and plastic surgery reported 3,460 deaths and the department of surgery reported 2,755 deaths.
The Safdarjung hospital has reported 24,924 deaths out of a total of 3,82,950 admissions in the past three years which means that nearly 6.5% of the patients admitted to the hospital expired.
