‘Right to Information (RTI)’ talk at MIT
18 Jul, 2012The Advocacy Coordinator for Janpath and the Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP) groups, Ms. Pankti Jog, addressed a crowd of about 30 people at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She discussed the Janpath's and MAGP's advocacy work with Right to Information (RTI) primarily in the state of Gujarat during her talk which was organised by the MIT and Boston chapters of Association for India's Development. She made a presentation about the RTI success stories.
-In 2006, MAGP launched a legal RTI helpline in India to provide help in filing applications and it claims to have answered over 100,000 calls.
-In 2008, Janpath's "RTI on Wheels" grassroots initiative was established. It is a mobile multi-media legal clinic van that has traveled to over 4000 villages in 18 states, reaching over 550,000 villagers, spreading the word on Right to Information and helping villagers file RTI applications right on the spot.
