Use of orderlies by retired police officers revealed under RTI
15 Sep, 2012In a reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Police Department of Chennai has stated that the system of orderlies had been abolished vide GO dated September 9, 1979 by the Tamil Nadu government. But, the department has further attached a file in the reply which shows that many retired police officers are still utilizing the services of orderlies for their household works.
The list depicts that at least 55 senior retired cops use orderlies apart from many more in the service. Out of these retired officers, there are 22 The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in the Official Secrets Act, 1923 (19 of 1923), and any other law for the time being in force or in any instrument having effect by virtue of any law other than this Act. Directors General of Police (DG), 16 Additional Director Generals of Police (ADG) and 17 retired Inspectors General of Police (IG). The names of all such officers have been mentioned in the reply.
