Comment: I'M a RTI activist from Kolkata. I have filed lots of RTI application in English with different departments of the Govt of Maharashtra. But SPIO/ FAA are replying in Marathi language which is not understood by me for further proceeding despite my vigorous objections/ persuasions. Justice is delayed means denied. I have brought this matter to higher authorities of MAHARASHTRA Govt...no result. Can u suggest the solutions according to the Law of the land? Thanks.

The RTI Act does not have a special provision prescribing the language in which the reply ought to be given. The information is to be provided in the form in which it is available i.e. the photocopies are not required to be translated by the department for you. However, the forwarding letter cannot be in Marathi to a letter in English. As per the rules of Government of India (https://rajbhasha.nic.in/en/official-language-rules-1976) the communication in Marathi to your application in English is not proper. You may file an appeal against such a reply taking it as deemed refusal.
