Schools reduce entry level seats for students
17 Feb, 2012
A RTI application has revealed that nearly 100 schools in Delhi have reduced the number of seats at the entry level in violation of the admission guidelines. It has been alleged that schools have decreased the number of seats to ensure less number of admissions under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
It has been claimed that as per the Delhi School Education Order, 2011, the number of seats schools must allot at the entry-level must at least be equal to the seats in the class that has the highest number of students. But schools, which include some prestigious names, have allotted less seats at the nursery and pre-school levels. It is been alleged that instead of ensuring compliance of the order, the authorities of the Department of Education now are going for amending the clause which would give a free hand to schools to openly violate provisions under the Right to Education Act, 2009 regarding admissions to the EWS.
