RTI reveals 6 documentaries in 3 years on Babu Jagjivan Ram by Lok Sabha TV
21 Aug, 2012In response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it has been informed by the Lok Sabha Secretariat that six documentaries have been produced by it on late Babu Jagjivan Ram since his daughter Smt. Meira Kumar took over as the Lok Sabha Speaker three years back in 2009. The Lok Sabha TV has not made more than two documentary on any other legendary figure ever since the channel was set up by the former Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee.
- Two documentaries were made on Obama, King and Gandhi.
- One documentary each had been made on B.R. Ambedkar, former President N. Sanjiva Reddy, former Speaker G.M.C. Balayogi, writer Ruskin Bond, Rabi Ray, K.S. Hegde, Bali Ram Bhagat, G.S. Dhillon, Sardar Hukum Singh, M.A. Ayyangar, G.V. Mavalankar, Vikram Sarabhai and Subramanyan Chandrasekhar.
The application was filed by RTI activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal, who has questioned the making of so many documentaries on Jagjivan Ram pointing out whether it is a mere coincidence that it 6 documentaries were made in 3 years during the time when his daughter Smt. Meira Kumar took charge as Lok Sabha Speaker.
