RTI reply - Little work with the Right to Service Commission
9 Aug, 2012As per information obtained from the Right to Service Commission of Punjab using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it has come to notice the Commission has received merely only 21 applications and 4 appeals (totaling 25) till now. The Right to Service Act came into force on 10th October 2011 and the Right to Service Commission was constituted to hear the appeals /revisions against the decision of the appellate authority under section 10 of the RTS Act. It indicates widespread ignorance of the RTS Act and its provisions to file appeals and revisions.
A breakup of the applications/ appeals shows that 13 pertain to revenue department, 5 to Home Department, 2 to Transport Department and one each about Water Supply, Social Security, Local government and Social Welfare Departments.
Currently, the RTS Commission employs nearly 50 people including Chief Commissioner alongwith four Commissioners whose services are underutilised in disposing just three applications in a month.
