RTI - Information Commissioners do not have requisite qualifications
26 Aug, 2012On the basis of a reply received in response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it has been claimed that the Information Commissioners (ICs) appointed in Andhra Pradesh didn’t fulfill the required criteria for the post. The appointments of M. Ratan, S. Prabhakar Reddy, C. MadhukarRaj, all of them retired bureaucrats, and P. Vijay Babu, a journalist to the post of Information Commissioners has been challenged in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. A Division Bench of the AP High Court comprising of the acting Chief Justice P.C. Ghose and Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar has held that the information provided was not sufficient to issue writ of quo warranto and has adjourned the case by a week.
There have been many complaints against the appointment of the information commissioners all over the country.
