RTI Anonymous to help protect whistleblowers
24 Aug, 2012There have been rampant complaints of harassment and killing of persons who wish to exercise their Right to Information under the RTI Act. To overcome this problem, some volunteers have launched an online RTI portal named “RTI Anonymous” which will help the whistleblowers in hiding their identities,
Any person, who wants information under the RTI Act, can draft the RTI Application on the portal. Then the RTI Anonymous community files an application with the concerned agency in its name and uploads the documents obtained on the website. The original information requester is notified through an email.
An IIT-Kharagpur student Ritesh Singh proposed the idea of launching a platform to protect the whistleblowers'. He accepted that the idea to protect whistleblowers struck him after the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood.
