Records of Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force destroyed in fire
13 Aug, 2012In reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has informed that their files for the last 15 years have been lost in a fire mishap. The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force has been investigating the corrupt practices in civic agencies.
The former Mayor P R Ramesh sought the certified copies of the cases handled by BMTF pertaining to BDA, BBMP, BWSSB since 1997-98 onwards through an application dated May 8, 2012. The BMTF has informed that the documents were unavailable as all the documents were burnt during the fire mishap in BMTF office on November 19, 2011. On the suggestion of the BMTF to seek for the files from Urban Development Department, the applicant requested to Urban Development Department to share the documents of BMTF's functioning since 1997-98. However, even the Urban Development Department told that it had no information on that regard.
Is 'RTI Act', the spark behind the increasing incidents of ‘fire’ in public offices?
