Privacy does not end with the demise of an individual
13 Feb, 2012Background
The appellant sought information about the details of death benefits of an individual. The PIO held that the appellant has sought third party information and as the receipt of the benefits did not consent to the disclosure of this information, the PIO refused to disclose this information under section 8(1) (j) of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
View of the CIC
The Central information Commission dismissed the appeal observing that as there is no larger public interest, there is no justification to interfere with the decision of the PIO.
