Penalty imposed on GP secretary for failing to furnish information under RTI
10 Feb, 2014An application was filed with the Secretary of the Madhorajpura gram panchayat in Jaipur district under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information about the documents related to the allotment of the applicant’s parental house.
However, the secretary failed to provide the requested information to the applicant even after two years. The applicant, a senior citizen, has alleged that the secretary sought to withhold the information under pressure from the then Sarpanch of the village, who as per the applicant was responsible for forging the documents.
As the matter was brought before the state information commission of Rajasthan, the SIC found the secretary guilty and imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on him. The chief information commissioner, also ordered to furnish the requested information to the senior citizen within 15 days and free of cost.
