Mr. P. P. Tewari has asked to make the travelling expenses of MLAs public
28 Mar, 2012
Just before his retirement, the Chief Information Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh State Information Commission (SIC) Mr. P. P. Tewari has asked the speaker to make the travelling expenses of MLAs public by getting them uploaded on the assembly website. It was perhaps the last order before retirement on March 25.
The matter started in March 2010, when the Vidhan Sabha secretariat refused to provide information to an RTI applicant who sought details of the TA and DA claimed by legislators. On appeal to the SIC, the speaker denied the information saying it would be a breach of privilege of the MLAs. The applicant desired the information allegedly to pin down certain irregularities. The order said : "The commitment and conduct of all the public servants should be beyond any doubt. And, this becomes even more important as the issue is related to the people's representatives."
