Information related to the MPLAD funds
5 May, 2012Background
The appellant sought a number of information regarding the utilization of the MPLAD funds of a particular Member of Parliament from Delhi. The Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Lok Sabha provided the available information. He transferred part of the application to the Department of Programme Implementation which provided whatever information they had. The PIO of Lok Sabha transferred some items to the PIO of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) since the Member of Parliament had got some of the funds spent through the MCD.
View of CIC
The Central Information Commission (CIC) directed the PIO of the MCD to provide relevant information within the stipulated period.
Comments
This case points out that there is no centralised data maintained regarding the funds spent by each MP. If that is the situation in Delhi where nobody seems to be sure of where the funds are being spent, one can imagine the situation for the rest of the country.
