Information related to action taken for issuing false ration cards

The appellant wanted to know as to what action has been taken on his report against the officers responsible for issuing ration cards on the basis of false documents, including name of the officer who dealt with the representation made by him and the action taken report. The Public Information Officer (PIO) replied with the enclosure furnished by the FSO Circle 17 who requested for the card number and address so that the information may be provided. The First Appellate Authority directed the PIO (North) to provide point wise information to the Appellant within 30 days.

During the hearing, the respondent submitted that a committee consisting of FSO III and the Inspector was set up, who found that some card holders does not exists at the present address and some addresses belongs to some Jhuggi Jhopdis which have since been demolished. He further stated that he has already written to Head Quarters to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter of almost 280 cases about which the appellant has informed the PIO so that appropriate action can be taken based on the outcome of the enquiry.
The Central Information Commission directed the PIO to provide factual information in respect of the action being taken and recommended that the enquiry by Head Quarters should be completed by end April, 2012 so that responsibility for issuance of cards on the basis of false certificates can be fixed and appropriate action taken against the officials found guilty of issuing such cards based on the false addresses. The Commission also suggested that information about the cards issued on the basis of false certificates may be displayed at the shops so that people are aware of such card holders.
