This matter pertains to an RTI application dated 12.6.2013 filed by the Appellant, seeking information regarding the action taken by the Respondents on a proposal to declare the Tagore Hill Monument in Ranchi as a National Monument and to prevent encroachments at the site of the monument. Not satisfied with the response of the Respondents, he filed second appeal dated 8.1.2014 to the CIC, which was received by the Commission on 27.1.2014.

The Appellant stated that a proposal to declare the above monument as a National Monument was sent by the Ranchi Circle of ASI to the Office of the Director General, ASI in 2009 and he wants to know the action taken by the Respondents on the same. He also stated that the site of the monument is being constantly encroached upon and he wants to know the action taken by the Respondents to prevent encroachment. The Respondents stated that the above monument was not declared a National Monument and, therefore, there was no question of providing any further information. Regarding encroachment, thy stated that their Ranchi office has been writing to the District authorities to prevent the same.
3. We have considered the records and the submissions made by both the parties before us. We direct Shri K. K. Sharma SA (M) and CPIO to provide the following information to the Appellant free of cost, within twenty days of the receipt of this order, under intimation to the Commission:
(a) Certified copies of file notings and all other documents concerning the consideration given to and decision taken on the Ranchi Circle proposal to declare the Tagore Hill Monument as a National Monument.
(b) Certified copies of all the letters addressed by the Respondents to the District Authorities to prevent encroachment and information regarding any other action taken by them in this regard.
4. With the above directions and observations, the appeal is disposed of.
5. Copies of this order be given free of cost to the parties.
