Format prescribed for filing RTI appeals to CIC
14 Aug, 2012As the number of applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has been increasing in geometric progression, the Central Information Commission (CIC) is finding it difficult to process the incomplete and illegible applications. At the request of the CIC, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has notified new rules to help it in grappling with the problem of incoherent and incomplete appeals.
As per the notification, the appeals to Central Information Commission (CIC) must follow a pre-defined format. Due to tremendous increase in the RTI application filed, the number of applications pending with the CIC is increasing and currently there is a delay of 8 to 12 months in the replies to the appeals. The notification makes it clear that the applications which are not in the proper format are not rejected merely on this ground as it may not be as per the spirit of the RTI Act.
