The disposal data of many information commissioners remains poor
9 Oct, 2014The pendency position at the Inforamtion Commission is alarming and needs to be looked upon. One way could be to fill the vacancies but it is equally important the the incumbents perform and pass orders which are qualitatively and quantitatively good. Unfortunately, the disposal of the number of cases by the information commissioners remains poor. Some of the cases are adjourned for long and the hearing comes up after as long as a year.
Mr. Ratnakar Gaikwad Chief Information Commissioner at Maharashtra, SIC is disposing at the rate of over 6000 cases annually while Mr Shailesh Gandhi cleared nearly 5000 cases each year. The CIC has set a minimum norm of 3200 cases per commissioner per year.
Should the information commissioners not set up a target for themselves? The mere publishing of their disposal data can act as a good check for their performance appraisal.
