Details of joint locker of a bank can be asked by any of the person
23 Feb, 2012
Background
Vide three different RTI applications, the appellant sought a number of information regarding a safe deposit locker held jointly by him and his wife as also about the service matters relating to his wife. The PIO didn’t provided any particular information on the ground that there were several disputes pending between the husband and the wife in various courts and also because the locker account was held jointly by both of them. On appeal, the Appellate Authority endorsed the decision of the PIO.
View of the CIC
The Central Information Commission ruled that the appellant should be allowed to inspect the relevant register for operating the locker for the entire period for which the locker has been in the names of the appellant and his wife. Further, the PIO was directed to provide the salary details of the employee concerned for the preceding one year including the details of the total compensation being paid to her every month during this period. However, the Commission held that the provident fund being deducted from the monthly salary should not be disclosed as it is personal to her.
