CIC directs DoPT to simplify the delivery of information to RTI application
3 Sep, 2012After noting that separate replies were sent by different Chief Public Information Officers (CPIOs) to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act which contained seven different queries, the Central Information Commission (CIC), has asked the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to formulate ways to overcome this inconvenience.
The proposed method should be user-friendly and easier as all the needed information will be compiled together and sent in a single communication, point wise. It would also help in avoiding delays due to splitting of individual queries among a number of CPIOs and then making them respond separately.
As per the RTI Act, a single public authority and is expected to provide the information to an applicant after obtaining the same from the other deemed CPIO under section 5(4) whereas in case the information pertains to another public authority, it may be transferred to the concerned CPIO under intimation to the applicant.
