Benches of Information Commission proposed in two districts of Karnataka
2 Sep, 2012The Karnataka State Information Commission (SIC) plans to set up benches in Dharwad and Gulbarga districts of the state to hear appeals / complaints under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. Setting of benches in the districts would enable the citizens to avail the services from a place which is neared to their residence. Currently, the appellants have to move to Bangalore to file appeals /complaints. Opening of additional benches would ensure speedy disposal of appeals / complaints and lessen the burden at Bangalore.
The Information Commissioner Shekar Sajjannar has informed that the State Information Commission (SIC) has submitted a proposal to the State government to set up the Benches in the two districts. Each Bench will cover four districts of Karnataka.
The State RTI Commission has also proposed to the State government to include RTI as a part of the curriculum from high school to postgraduate levels. The NCERT has already proposed inclusion of RTI in the text-books.
