Heard on 10.10.14. Appellant present. Respondent is represented by Shri B.K.Puri.

The appellant filed RTI application dated 05022014 seeking information with respect to non-payment of interest at 12 % in respect of F.D No. 7190 dated 250485 & F.D No. 7749 dated 040685 amounting to Rs 5000/- & Rs 14000/- respectively. PIO responded on 03032014. Being unsatisfied with the information provided, the appellant preferred First Appeal on 13032014. FAA by his Order dated 03042014 stated that although information has been provided to the appellant, he directed the AR (NWII) to process the matter expeditiously and take it to the logical conclusion as well as inform the appellant of the action taken within 6 weeks. The appellant has approached the Commission with the prayer that the FAA Order has not been complied upon.
3. During the hearing the Appellant submitted that he had two fixed deposits amounting Rs.14,000/ and Rs. 5,000/. While the principal amount was paid, the interest was not paid and he was told by the liquidator that it is under consideration. He wants to know as to how long it will be under the consideration and what is the position. He also sought compensation for non-payment of interest. The Respondent submitted that the file relating to the payment of interest is not traceable despite search

The Commission after hearing the submissions made while holding that adequate information has been furnished directs the Public Authority to compensate pay a sum of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only) to the Appellant u/s 19(8)(b) In its decision, the Central Information Commission or State Information Commission, as the case may be, has the power to require the public authority to compensate the complainant for any loss or other detriment suffered; of the RTI Act for the delay in communicating the exact date of payment of interest to the Appellant. The amount should be paid to the Appellant within three weeks of receipt of this order.
5. The Commission ordered accordingly.
