Vacant properties in Vadodara exceed 1 lakh: RTI reply
8 Feb, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has stated that over one lakh properties in Vadodara are lying vacant. A vacant property implies that property which is currently not being used and it includes both sold and unsold properties.
The RTI reply provided by the state directorate of census operations states that total properties under the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) include 3,90,812 residential properties, 85,843 commercial properties and another 5,056 properties which are being used for residential-cum-other purposes. The reply puts the figures of vacant properties at 1,02,880.
However, the real estate developers seem to be perplexed by this figure and the president of Vadodara chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) has said that though the market has been stagnant, the figures seem to be highly exaggerated. The statistics in the RTI reply also doesn’t match the estimates of the revenue department of the VMC which puts the figure at 14,000.
