Uttarakhand adopts new RTI rules
8 Jan, 2013The state cabinet of Uttarakhand has given its nod to the new rules for effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. It has been claimed that the new rules would simplify the whole process of getting information by removing the procedural bottlenecks.
The newly framed rules clearly define the roles and responsibilities of Public Information Officers (PIOs) under the Act. It also defines information in clear terms by making it clear that opinion, suggestions, etc. which are not in a written form, do not fall into the category of information. Apart from this, it also specifies that only information of public interest will be disclosed and personal information will be kept out of the purview of the transparency act and will not be provided to the applicants.
