Uttar Pradesh SIC to hold adalats in every district to clear backlog

At a review meeting, the state information commissioner of Uttar Pradesh Gyan Prakash Maurya has stated that the information commission will hold adalats in every district so as to keep control over the piling applications filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The commissioner also informed that the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission (SIC) has, till now, imposed a penalty of Rs. 25,000 on around 800 public authorities either for declining to provide information or for adopting callous attitude towards RTI Act.
Urging the departmental officers to deal judiciously with the RTI queries, he said that the information commission has tried to make its functioning quite transparent and citizen friendly. The information commissioner also told that the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission (UPSIC) has also started settling cases through video conferencing for speedy and convenient disposal.
