SIC increases the amount of penalty imposed on Municipal Corporation
14 Jul, 2013
An application was filed with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking some information.
However, as the information was not provided to the applicant, the state information commission imposed a penalty of Rs. 5,000 on the municipal corporation which was to be paid to the applicant within a week i.e. by June 11, 2013. As the municipal corporation failed to pay the applicant the requisite amount in time, the SIC has increased the amount of penalty and has issued show cause notices to the respondents.
In its order the SIC said that the applicant had faced harassment due to the apathetic attitude of the corporation and asked the corporation to pay Rs. 6,000 to the appellant within a week as the enhanced penalty.
