Should there be some norms for the allotment of properties to politicians?
9 Nov, 2013
As per a reply received by RTI activist Subhash Chandra Aggarwal from the Central Public Works Department, BSP Supremo Ms. Mayawati who already has one bunglow allotted to her, has been allotted three additional bunglows. These three properties have been allotted to the ‘Bahujan Prerna Manch,’ dedicated to the icon of BSP Late Kanshi Ram. The Manch has been allotted bungalows numbered 12, 14 and 16 on Gurudwara Rakabganj Road in the heart of Delhi, while bungalow 4 was already allotted to Ms. Mayawati. Usually such bungalows are allotted to high ranking officials or central ministers individually.
It has been alleged that some modification cum construction activity is under way in these bunglows which is against the rules. Each bungalow has eight bedrooms, four servant quarters and front and back lawns and the combined property is nearly six times larger than the main chamber of the Lok Sabha in Parliament House, which seats over 500 MPs. RTI activist Subhash Aggarwal has called for the Supreme Court to step in the matter.
