Should there be a restriction on the magazines which can be bought by an office?
Reply to an application filed under the RTI Act has revealed that the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation has spent nearly Rs. 24 Lakhs on Magazines and Newspapers in the last five years. The magazines include champak, chandamama, children’s world, Cosmopolitan, cricket Samarat, Alive, Femina, Filmfare, Good House Keeping, Grahlaxmi, Grahon ka Khel, Grahshobha, Kadambini, Life Positive, Manohar Kahaniya, Meri Saheli, Mukta, Nandan, Navneet, Nirogadham, Sarita , Sportstar, Stardust, Swamy’s News, Vanita, Women’s era etc.
Activists have criticised the quantum of money spent on buying the newspapers and magazines. It has been claimed that while newspapers and magazines are required to keep the officials updated with latest news, the choice of the magazines leaves little to be commented on.
