Shops at Sarabha Nagar market don’t have fire safety NOCs: RTI reply
12 Feb, 2013An application was filed with the fire wing of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking copies of fire safety NOCs issued to the shops in the Sarabha Nagar main market and a list of defaulters who never got NOC issued.
In its reply, the office of the sub-divisional fire officer of Ludhiana has stated that not even a single NOC has been issued till date to any shopkeeper in Sarabha Nagar market and that the shopkeepers are responsible for getting NOC registered.
The applicant has complained to Punjab State Human Rights Commission against the owners of showrooms and restaurants at Sarabha Nagar market, also known as Kipps Market, for not taking fire safety measures and demanded action against them for ignoring public safety.
The complainant submitted that Kipps, a famous restaurant at the market, had caught fire twice in past few years and recently on January 4, another restaurant, Nando's, caught fire in which the whole kitchen was gutted though no one was injured.
