RTI reveals no fire safety certificates issued in Ludhiana since January 1, 2012
15 Sep, 2013
An application was filed with the fire wing of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get details about the institutions and public places with the fire safety certificates. The application also sought information regarding the raids conducted by the fire wing officials at gas agencies and petrol pumps for checking the fire safety measures.
The reply to the application indicates that the fire wing of the municipal corporation has been lackluster in ascertaining the fire safety measures at places of public gatherings. The reply states that the office of additional divisional fire officer has not issued a single No Objection Certificate to the exhibitors/organizers of the gatherings putting the lives of the citizens at risk.
The RTI reply also showed that the fire wing officials have neither paid mandatory surprise visits to the schools and colleges in the city to check their fire safety measures nor are they aware of the equipments for fire safety installed in such educational institutions and other important places like hotels, restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, gas agencies and petrol pumps.
