RTI reveals no degrees for over 32,000 pass-outs of Jammu University
14 Jun, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that over 32,000 pass-outs from the University of Jammu are awaiting degrees in different streams.
In response to the RTI query, the University stated that 26, 564 successful candidates from sessions 2006-07 to 2010-11 have not been issued graduation degrees by the university. Similarly, for postgraduate certificates, the university said that a total of 5,556 postgraduates have not been issued their degrees. Out of these, 2,256 are of session 2010 and 3,300 of session 2011.
There are students who are awaiting their graduation degrees from Jammu University, while they already have received their post graduation degrees from other universities. The delay in awarding degrees is also putting students’ future in peril as many of them are not able to apply for jobs due to unavailability of degree. Though no satisfactory reason was provided by the university officials, the Controller of Examinations has assured that backlogs will soon be cleared and steps will be taken to ensure issuance of degrees to the students.
