RTI reveals missing birth data of past 15 years from Municipal Corporation
An application was filed with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know about the birth certificate of Gaurav Shukla, the prime accused in the Aashiana gang-rape case.
In the reply, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has stated that birth data from 1987 till date are not available in the record room. It also implies that no duplicate birth certificates can be issued to citizens born in and after 1987 in case their original ones are lost.
The Municipal Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Singh has ordered an enquiry into the matter and has asked the additional municipal commissioner who is also in charge of public information office and the supervisor of health section of LMC to submit a report within a week as to how such documents went missing from the record room. He has also threatened to lodge FIR against officials and employees responsible for the lapse.
