RTI reveals internal marks to the students awarded by ineligible persons
27 Jun, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that 'ineligible' persons like the president or secretaries of college managements under Nagpur University have been awarding internal marks to the students.
The reply to the application, provided by assistant registrar of Nagpur University, shows that this process of awarding marks has been continuing for at least three academic sessions viz. 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. It also includes the marks of sessional examinations held in engineering faculty.
The examination controller of the university said that only an approved and regular teacher can award marks as an internal or external. The president or secretary, even though they might be qualified to award marks, are not allowed to do so as they are not counted among academic officers.
The colleges said that the step was taken only because of shortage of regular faculty. Already Nagpur University has banned admission in 125 colleges as they had been operating without a single regular lecturer.
