RTI reveals heavy expenditure on purchase of cars for Ministers
21 Nov, 2012The reply to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the government of Karnataka has spent over Rs. 7.6 crore on purchase of luxury cars for Ministers.
Information provided by the office of the Superintendent of State Guest House, Bangalore has brought to light the fact that 59 new luxury cars have been purchased for Ministers including a bulletproof car and a Honda CRV for the Chief Minister since the present government came to power. Further, it has also been informed that there is no uniformity in the purchase of models as the cars were purchased as per the interest and demands of the ministers. The applicant alleged that the norm of replacement of minister’s vehicle after a travel of 1 lakh kilometers was also violated.
It has also been revealed that over Rs. 43 crore has been spent on the tickets for the flight of Ministers.
