RTI reveals that half the borewells dug by municipal corporation are dysfunctional
An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the details of borewell dug by the municipal corporation of Pimpri-Chinchwad since 1982. The reply to the application suggests that the municipal corporation didn’t have proper records of the borewells dug before 2004. The information stated that 527 borewells were dug from 2004 to 2012 out of which 283 borewells are in working condition while 244 are not.
The total amount spent on these borewells was 40.63 lakhs including digging, repair and maintenance. No separate information was available about the money spent on repair and maintenance. Moreover, the corporation didn’t have data regarding the borewells dug up by housing societies or private property owners in their premises.
