RTI reveals few public toilet facilities for women in Pimpri Chinchwad
An application was filed with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know the status of toilet facilities available for the women in the city. The reply to the application mentions that there are only 47 public urinal blocks in Pimpri Chinchwad for women when the population of women in the city is around 9 lakhs and the mayor of the city is a woman herself.
The mayor of Pimpri Chinchwad said that steps will be taken by the municipal corporation to construct more facilities for women in the city. Chairperson of the women and child welfare committee, PCMC has also reiterated that the rotary clubs around the city will be provided land by the municipal corporation to construct toilets at five busy locations of the city and these toilets will be operated on pay and use basis.
Unfortunately, the situation in most towns and cities of the country remain as poor, if not more.
