RTI reveals 314 files of real estate projects missing from civic records
28 May, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that files of 314 real estate projects in Bandra to Andheri belt in Mumbai have been lost by the Municipal Corporation of Brihan Mumbai (BMC). The reply states that the files of these projects have gone missing over last seven years from the offices of Building Proposal Department in these areas.
As per the rules, each proposed building in these projects has been assigned a separate file containing all documents related to the building. Missing files indicate that the civic body has lost all the information related to these buildings. It is alleged that developers tend to illegally modify the structures after they receive the occupation certificates and the files have been deliberately misplaced so that the irregularities and violations of rules could not be detected.
The chief engineer in development plan department has said that the process of filing police complaints for the missing files has been initiated.
