RTI reveals 267 faculty positions at CUSAT don’t have government sanction

The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that a large number of posts at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) don’t have government sanction.
The reply to the application shows that a total of 267 teaching posts in the university are without government sanction. Out of these, 150 posts are in School of Engineering, 105 posts are in College of Engineering, Kuttanad, the Department of Computer Applications has 3 posts without government sanction and the School of Legal Studies has nine such positions.
Among the 150 unsanctioned posts at School of Engineering, 109 are lecturers, 29 are readers and 12 professors while among those at the Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad, there are 74 lecturers, 22

Apart from these teaching posts, CUSAT has also created 157 non-teaching posts. These non-teaching posts are being paid from the fund generated in self-financing institutions in which they work while the teaching staffs, without government approval, get their salaries and allowances from the fee collected from the students.
