16 Jun, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details of the projects in which the environmental clearances were sought by the apex civic body of Haryana i.e. Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
In its reply to the application, the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) stated that no environmental clearance has been granted to HUDA since 2008. According to the Environmental (Protection) Act, all residential buildings built on a plot of size 500 square yards and above and all government building and schools must have solar water heating system and the responsibility of its implementation has been put on all the line departments like the Department of Town and Country Planning, Haryana Urban Development Department, Public Works Department (Building and Roads), Housing Board, Public Health Department and Architecture Department. The act also makes it mandatory for government buildings and corporations to use Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL).
However, the applicant alleged that there is poor implementation of the environment laws in Haryana due to lack of proper monitoring.
