RTI helps in getting the builder arrested for cheating flat buyers
The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has brought to the light an alleged fraud case in which a builder accepted booking amounts worth crores of rupees from the flat seekers by producing fake and fabricated documents.
The accused, Abrar Shaikh, had floated a construction company under the name Riya Constructions and Developers and many people booked flats in his project in Nallasopara, Mumbai. However, the reply to the RTI application from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shows that there were several anomalies regarding the project. It also identified that the builder committed many fabrications in respect to the actual status of permissions obtained for the construction work.
The Nallasopara police have arrested the builder against whom more than 30 persons have registered complaints and case has been registered against him under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
